Permanent Brows FAQ's

Does it hurt?

Not really. However every ones pain thresholds are different so you may feel some mild discomfort during the treatment. Most of my clients tell me how they relaxed they feel. I have even had some clients who have fallen asleep during the treatment! On your arrival, I will make you at ease, apply numbing product to the brow area and help you to feel comfortable throughout.

Will it look natural?

Yes, the healed results will look very natural. During the consultation process, I will spend the time understanding what a natural look means to you (as believe it or not, it does vary a lot from one person to the next). I also work with a variety of pigment types and brands in order to ensure I can create the perfect colour and end result for your individual skin type. I also encourage you to have a good look at my portfolio of work, not jut my website gallery but also on my Instagram page (link available on my insta feed on my home
page). You will see that I offer a range of styles all of which will be completely tailored to
your requirements. Do be prepared for the initial colour intensity to be approximately 30-50% darker immediately after your treatment. The hair strokes will also soften, both changes lead
to a beautifully natural healed result.

How long does the treatment last?

This depends on a number of factors, the treatment can normally last anything from 12-24 months. The key factors which affect the longevity of your permanent makeup are; the level of sun exposure, your skin type, lifestyle factors and certain medical conditions or medications taken either at the time or after the treatment.
I recommend a colour boost maintenance treatment approx 12-18 months after your first treatment is fully completed to keep your permanent makeup looking fresh. See my services pages for more details including costs for colour boosts.

Will you need to remove any of my existing brow hairs?

I work with whatever existing brow hair you have as this allows for the most natural end result and less maintenance longer term. In some instances a small amount of brow hair may need to be removed to tidy the area and ensure your finished shape looks its best but I will always ensure you understand what I recommend to remove and that clients are in full agreement before any potential hair removal takes place.

Is a permanent brow treatment for me?

Permanent makeup and microblading is hugely versatile and can offer a long term low maintenance solution for makeup application for both men and women. If you want a longer term solution to great looking brows everyday. Here’s a few examples of who it can help;
✓ Want to improve your current brow shape / fill in gaps?
✓ Over plucked or no brows?
✓ Not confident/able of correctly applying makeup?
✓ Cannot find suitable makeup products for your colouring?
✓ Want to save time on your beauty routine in the mornings?
✓ Want to look good when exercising without having to apply makeup?

How do I pick the right artist?

Here is what I recommend;
⚫ Always look at the artists portfolio of work, check that the portfolio represents the artists own work too! All of the work in my gallery is my own and you can also check out my Facebook and Instagram pages for regular posts displaying my latest work. Compare artists work, great permanent makeup is an art form and as soon as you start really looking at different artists work you will get a good feel for not only the quality but also their individual style of work.
⚫ Check the artists credentials. I am a fully qualified, licensed and insured artist. I have been awarded with L4IQ award in full face permanent makeup. I trained with the KB Pro, the UKs leading brand in permanent cosmetics. I continue to develop my skills attending advanced training and workshops to make sure I can offer the latest trends and techniques for my clients.
⚫ Don’t just try and find the cheapest ‘artist’ you can find. Permanent makeup requires a high level of artistic skill and understanding of the scienceof skin healing and colour theory. All of which takes a lot of time, commitment, passion and theright training to master. Your artist should be operating with the highest quality
products and safety standards. Don’t be afraid to ask your artist about their products and where they come from!
⚫ Get in touch. Prior to booking, give me a call or fill in your contact details here to arrange a free no obligation consultation for any of my treatments.

Is there anything I should avoid doing leading up to my treatment?

⚫ Sunshine holidays should be no closer than 2 weeks prior to or post your permanent makeup treatment as the sun damage to your skin will impact the pigment retention and the sun exposure will be additional trauma to the skin
⚫ If you wax your brows, this should be done no closer than 4 days prior to your treatment
⚫ If you use medical skincare and/or topical active ingredients in your skincare regime, please make us aware as part of your consultation so we can advise what to stop and when leading up to your treatment.
⚫ If you tint your brows this should be done no closer than one week prior to your treatment.
⚫ Unless prescribed you should not take any ibrupofren or aspirin 24 hours prior to your app as this thins the blood. If this is a prescribed medicine be sure to make your artist aware in good time before your booked appt
⚫ Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your appt
⚫ Avoid highly caffeinated drinks on the morning of your procedure
⚫ If you have botox this should ideally be carried out after a permanent makeup treatment and no closer than 2 weeks prior to the treatment

What does the treatment involve?

See the services section where I have outlined the details of the three key stages of your treatment – Consultation, the treatment and the perfecting retouch appointment. (Include link back up to ‘the treatment process explained’ section of brows page)

Can I wear makeup after the treatment?

You will need to wait until the treatment area has healed before wearing any traditional cosmetics. My recommendation is to treat the area like you would a wound to prevent any risk of infection. You should also avoid the use of traditional cleansing products in the treatment area whilst it heals. It is definitely worth a few days without makeup to help ensure the healed results are nothing short of fabulous!

How long does it take to heal and what do I need to do differently during this time?
  • The surface level healing normally takes about 10-14 days and you can expect to see your true healed results approximately 4-6 weeks after your treatment.
  • You need to avoid getting your brows saturated in water or sweat for the first two weeks.
  • To keep the are a clean you should, blot the brows gently with a damp cotton pad which has been soaked in sterile water or micro tonic to gently clean the area. Do this morning and night followed by a small application of the specialist micro balm healing product I provide you with. Facial skincare products should be avoided in the treatment area during the initial healing period.
Clients sometimes worry about how they can keep their brows dry during this time.
However you can still wash you hair and shower. I do recommend that you keep your face away from the running water and if you do get the odd splash of water on your face, don’t panic. Just simply gently pat the brows with a clean lint free cloth.
What is most important is that you keep the treatment area clean and avoid the brows getting saturated during the initial healing phase.
  • Do not wear any makeup in the treatment area until the surface healing has completed.
  • Avoid rigorous exercise during this initial healing period as the saline in your sweat will impact the quality of pigment retention.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Avoid chlorinated pools and jacuzzis for two weeks.
  • You will be given a specialist aftercare balm which you can apply sparingly to the brow area during the healing phase. I will take you through and email you full
aftercare guidance as part of your treatment booking.
Is there anything I should avoid doing after my treatment and for how long?
  • In order to ensure the best possible end result for your permanent makeup treatment you should avoid the following for the first two weeks after your treatment and retouch appointment;
  • Sunbeds or holidays in hot climates should be avoided altogether. This is very important as sun damage (even from just a ‘tan’) will have a direct impact on the quality of skin healing and can lead to scarring if the healing skin is burnt by the suns rays. It will also definitely impact the level of pigment retention. Please take this into consideration when booking your treatment and re-touch appointment.
  • Chlorinated pools or Jacuzzis
  • Vigorous exercise – the saline in your sweat will definitely affect the quality of pigment retention

Permanent Eyeliner FAQ's

Does it hurt?

My clients normally describe the sensation as like a soft electric toothbrush. You may experience a small amount of swelling and tenderness towards the end of the treatment but any discomfort normally subsides very quickly. I gently numb the treatment area and also make you completely at ease from start to finish.

Will it look natural?

Yes, the healed results will look very natural, particularly the lash enhancement and baby permanent eyeliner treatments. To everyone else your eyes will look more wide awake, and your lashes will appear thicker and fuller but unlike other eyeliner treatments, you will not look like you are wearing obvious heavy makeup. If you go for a bolder eyeliner, expect. the end result to look like perfectly applied eyeliner with a slightly softer black finish. As with other permanent makeup treatments, the colour intensity will be approximately 30-50% darker immediately after the treatment.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment will last approximately 18 – 36 months and the longevity of your permanent makeup is dependent upon a number of factors. The key ones being; aftercare and certain medications taken either at the time or after the treatment. Also the style of eyeliner you opt for. Larger eyeliners will remain visible in the skin for many years but will fade and lose colour vibrancy over time. I recommend a colour boost appt 12-24 months after your first treatment is fully completed to keep your permanent makeup looking fresh. See my services pages for more details including costs for colour boosts.

Who has permanent eyeliner?

I have such a wide breadth of clients who seek permanent eyeliner for many
different reasons. This shapes the individual style of treatment and end result.
I have many clients who struggle with subtle makeup application due to various medical reasons, either affecting their sight or their ability to maintain a steady hand. It’s also a very popular treatment for clients who regularly work out and want to get up and go without the bother of makeup application or worry of it sweating off. Some of my eyeliner clients do not ordinarily wear eyeliner due to having either deep set or hooded eyelids, it just smudges and looks a mess. Permanent makeup, once healed will not budge. It will simply slowly fade over time.

Is a permanent eyeliner treatment for me?

A permanent lash enhancement treatment can suit anyone who wants more defined and wide awake eyes but does not want to wake up looking like they are wearing an obvious eyeliner. It’s a great treatment for those whose lashes have lost their fullness with age or those with gappy or fair lashes. Creating the illusion of thicker lashes intern creates more naturally beautiful looking eyes as full lashes are synonymous with beauty and youthfulness.
✓ Fed up with smudged pencil liner?
✓ Fair lashes
✓ Gappy lashes which have lost their density
✓ Want to define your eyes but without having a big eyeliner?
✓ Want your eyes to look bigger/ illusion of more ideal almond shaped eyes
✓ Want to save time on your beauty routine in the mornings?
✓ Want to look good when exercising without having to apply makeup?

Is there anything I should avoid doing leading up to my treatment?

If you wear false eyelashes these must be fully removed before you come to
treatment and you will need to wait until 2 weeks post treatment before having any new lashes applied.

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure (no sunbeams or sunbathing) within 10 days of your treatment. The sun damage will affect both how well your skin will retain the pigment and make the treatment far more uncomfortable.
  • If you use lash an eyelash growth serum, you must stop using this for at least 4 months prior to your eyeliner appt. Lash growth serums, thin the eyelid skin and this will affect both your comfort and ability to retain pigment from the treatment.
  • If you use medical grade active skincare – such as Vitamin A products, or AHAs, in the eye area. This must also be stopped 12 weeks prior to treatment for the same reason as lash growth serums.
  • Unless prescribed you should not take any ibrupofren or aspirin 24 hours prior to your appt as this thins the blood. If this is a prescribed medicine be sure to make your artist aware in good time before your booked appt.
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your appt.
  • Avoid highly caffeinated drinks on the morning of your procedure.
  • Avoid exposure to chlorine the morning of your appt.
What does the treatment involve?

See the services section where I have outlined the details of the three key Stages of your treatment – Consultation, the treatment and the perfecting retouch appointment. Appointment times vary depending on style of eyeliner you opt for. The treatment itself will normally take approximately 60-90 minutes to complete. I then take you through the aftercare before booking you in for your perfecting retouch appointment.

Can I wear makeup after the treatment?

You will need to wait at least five days before wearing any mascara or other makeup such as concealer or eyeshadow in the eye area. When you do you will need to use a fresh mascara. My recommendation is to treat the area like you would a wound to prevent any risk of infection. It is definitely worth a few days without makeup to help ensure the healed results are nothing short of fabulous!

How long does it take to heal and what do I need to do differently during this time?

You need to ensure that any tinting or perming is carried out no sooner than one week prior to your permanent lash enhancement treatment. You will also need to leave any further tinting or perming of the lashes to at least two weeks post your treatment. If you wear false lashes, these cannot be applied until at least two weeks after the treatment has been completed. The eyes do heal quickly and surface level healing is typically finished in 7 days. During the initial healing phase I also recommend that you gently blot the treatment area with a gauze/cotton pad soaked in sterile water (this should be damp but not sopping wet). Follow with a small amount of the specialist healing balm I provide you with to nourish and moisturise the healing skin.

Will my eyes be swollen and for how long?

You may experience some minor swelling and some soreness of the eye lids after the treatment. I bathe the eyes immediately after the treatment which helps subside any initial soreness and swelling.

Permanent Lips FAQ's

Does it hurt?

I am trained in techniques that ensure optimal levels of comfort and apply a topical anaesthetic to numb the lips and minimise any discomfort. Due to the nature of our lips being more vascular and sensitive compared with other areas of the body, it is normal to feel a small amount of discomfort towards the end a lip treatment. Having said that, any tenderness does normally subside very quickly following the treatment and the lips heal very quickly.

Will it look natural?

Absolutely, no trout pouts or scary lip lines here! Just fabulously defined and
coloured lips. The pigment ranges I stock are vast and includes various super naturalshades and colour depths which can be adapted to suit almost all requirements. I stock, Goldeneye colouressence, KB pro, and Permablend lip pigments. If you want a forever statement lip look, this can also be achieved with one of the bolder colours. This may take more sessions to achieve a higher intensity of colour. The colour intensity directly after the treatment will be approximately 50-70% darker in colour compared to the healed result but this will subside approximately a week after the treatment once the surface level skin has healed.

Will the treatment cause cold sores?

A permanent makeup treatment will not cause coldsores. However if you suffer from cold-sores, the herpes simplex virus will lay dormant in the system and the
treatment can arouse the virus leading to coldsores if untreated.

I suffer from cold sores, can I still have a lip treatment?

Yes. However due to what has been described in the FAQ above, you should either apply a coldsore topical medication to the lips prior to and post treatment to prevent the risk of an outbreak occurring. I recommend that you consult with your GP who can prescribe a suitable medication to be taken ahead of and directly after the treatment.

Is there anything I should avoid doing leading up to my treatment?
  • UV exposure from sunbeams or sunshine holidays should be no closer than 10 days prior to or post your permanent makeup treatment as the sun damage to your lips can affect both the healing of the skin and the quality of pigment retention.
  • Unless prescribed you should not take any ibrupofren or aspirin 24 hours prior to your appt as this thins the blood. If this is a prescribed medicine be sure to make your artist aware in good time before your booked appt.
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your appt.
  • Avoid highly caffeinated drinks on the morning of your procedure
What happens during the treatment appointment?
  • See the Services page section – The Treatment Process Explained for detailed information about each stage of the appointment.
What other pre treatment prep should I follow?

Ensure your lips are as well moisturised and exfoliated as possible. Healthy lip tissue will retain pigment more evenly and effectively than damaged lip tissue (ie dry or chapped lips) Have a good meal prior to your treatment as you may find eating slightly uncomfortable immediately after your treatment.

How will my lips look after my treatment?

Straight after the treatment the colour intensity of the lips will be approximately 50-70% and this will last for approximately 4-7 days after the treatment. It is also completely normal for your lips to feel tender and look slightly swollen and dry for the first few days whilst the surface is healing. The healed results will begin to come through after about two weeks. The healed results will be beautiful andnatural looking.

Is there anything I should avoid doing after my treatment and for how long?

In order to ensure the best possible end result for your permanent makeup
treatment you should avoid the following;

  • Avoid wearing makeup in or close to the treatment area during the initial surface
healing phase.. This is to prevent the risk of infection in the treated area.
  • Sunbeds or holidays in hot climates should be avoided for a minimum of 14 days after your treatment. This is very important as sun damage (even from just a ‘tan’) will have a direct impact on your skins healing time and overall pigment retention.
  • Keep the treatment area as dry as possible or the first two weeks only applying the healing product provided sparingly as advised at your appointment. I also recommend that you clean the lips by gently blotting them at least twice a day with gauze which has been soaked in sterile water. Further details will be provided during your treatment and emailed out to you.
  • Chlorinated pools or Jacuzzis
  • Vigorous exercise – the saline in your sweat will definitely affect the quality of pigment retention

Skincare FAQ's

What is Dermapen Microneedling?

Dermapen microneedling is a is an advanced dual action, medically proven treatment. It works by creating thousands of precise microscopic perforations on the surface of the skin. Although practically invisible to the naked eye, the skin sees these micro-perforations as skin damage and will activate the body’s natural repair mechanism, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. During treatment, active ingredients are driven into the skin, where the ingredients can be utilised and nourish the live cells. The active ingredients help promote healing and the production of the newly forming collagen, providing the perfect conditions for a visible yet natural result. Skin becomes more firm and more elastic. Fine lines and wrinkles fade, pores refine and the bold circulation is stimulated and overall skin condition improves.

Does it hurt?

Dermapen is virtually painless. However you may experience slight discomfort in
areas where the skin is at its thinnest, for example, the nose and forehead. The treatment is also finished with a copper peptide, hyaluronic face mask which
instantly cools and soothes the skin. See our treatment protocol for more details ofwhat to expect from the treatment, start to finish.

What’s involved?

Please see my ‘treatment process explained section of the page for all the details of what is involved in the consultation, treatment and aftercare.

Is there anything I need to avoid doing after a Dermapen microneedling treatment?

There is no downtime, however I do advise clients to avoid the following in the first 24 hours;
-Wearing makeup, perfumes or lotions in the area for the first 24 hours after
treatment. Although mineral makeup can be worn after any erythema has calmed down.
-Avoid direct sunlight, and wear a high SPF if you are required to step out into
sunlight
-Do not touch the treated area unless your hands are thoroughly clean
-Avoid smoking for as long as possible to avoid toxins
-Do not use any saunas or steam rooms
-Avoid excessive exercise which can cause sweating

Who can benefit from Dermapen treatments?

Due to the nature of how microneedling works and the fact that we can turn up the needle depth to suit your skin type, condition and treatment requirements. The treatment delivers a range of benefits for total skin rejuvenation from inside out. So what ever your Fitzpatrick skin type or age, I will be able to recommend a Dermapen treatment plan perfect for you.

What results can I expect?

✓ Smoother, softer skin with visible reduction of lines and wrinkles
✓ Improved overall skin nourishment and hydration improving skin tone and texure
✓ Sun damage and uneven pigmentation is broken down and appearance reduced
✓ Deep wrinkles softened
✓ Pore size reduced and refined
✓ Congestion and imperfections are cleared away
✓ oily/dry patches are balanced promoting a more even complexion

After how many treatments will I see results?

This really depends on the nature of your skin concerns and current condition. A
course of treatments will enable you to get the most optimum results however
improvements can usually be seen after just one treatment. I recommend a minimum of a course 3 treatments with ongoing maintenance treatments 3-6 times a year for best results.

Will I need a skincare consultation?

Yes, although the skin needling can be customised to suite all skin types, I do still require an initial consultation for skin treatments. This is to ensure we recommend the right treatments and/or home care routine best to deliver the results you’re looking for. I will also manage your expectations regarding what is realistic and dig deeper to establish if there are other lifestyle or environmental factors which may be affecting the health of your skin.

How long do results last?

Results can take up to 4 weeks ( or a full rejuvenation cycle) to see the full results of your treatment, but you can normally expect to see improvements in your skin within 7 days.

Scalp Micropigmentation FAQ's

Does it hurt?

Scalp micropigmentation doesn’t necessarily hurt. In fact, a lot of my clients fall asleep during their treatment. If you start to feel uncomfortable then I will apply a topical numbing cream to help ease the area. I will of course check on you throughout the procedure to make sure you are ok.

Do you provide aftercare advice?

Absolutely. I will discuss with you in detail exactly what aftercare to follow to make sure you maintain the best results possible. Its imperative you follow the aftercare provided to achieve maximum longevity.

Does SMP look real?

Absolutely. It is designed to leave you with the most natural results that are completely undetectable to the naked eye.

Do i need to shave my head?

This tends to vary from client to client. Scalp micropigmentation can be used to create the look of a full, shaved head of hair and can also be used to add density to thinning hair.

For example, a client suffering from severe pattern baldness or alopecia would usually be required to shave their hair to a short length to match the SMP treatment, whereas a client who is suffering from thinning hair but still has a majority coverage may be able to keep their hair at a longer length. This is usually the case for our female and post hair transplant clients.

Can I have SMP after a hair transplant?

Definitely. Many of my clients have undergone a hair transplant procedure and still not achieved their desired results. In those cases SMP can create a thicker look and camouflage the scar tissue.

How does the treatment process work?

Following your personal consultation with Danielle, where we will delve into your individual hair loss concerns and desired outcomes.

For a full scalp treatment we will assess the scalp in order to determine the natural hairline positioning. Danielle will also assess your scalp skin under and overtones along with your natural hair and brow colouring. She will then recommend the most suitable treatment plan which will ensure a process of building a totally natural looking result.

How long does it last?

A scalp micro pigmentation treatment will last approximately 24-36 months before a maintenance colour boost treatment will be required. A maintenance treatment will normally only require a single treatment to refresh the vibrancy and 3D effect of the look.

Does it look natural?

Danielle uses a revolutionary method to create the most natural looking hairline. By building the density and depth of colour over the 3 sessions this creates a perfectly natural looking soft 3D effect. No Lego heads here!! If you are looking for hair densification then Danielle will incorporate colour into the pigment blend which blends perfectly with your hair colour.

Does scalp micropigmentation work alongside the hair loss treatments?

Yes, you can have scalp micro pigmentation whilst also working to address the underlying cause of your hair loss. At the Uniskin Clinic where Danielle is located, there is also tricho treatment.
